I agree with pedro, Editing physically can be done by someone like me, with NO money to spend on powermacs or expensive external services. And the reward for the hassle is 1350 lines of resolution instead of about 500! I also find that computer editing of sound and images can be quite a sterile experience which takes your mind off the job of making a finished piece of art.

I respectfully disagree. The editing w/ FCP is hardly a drag. Creative possibilities are endless. What NLE sys are you using?
